Georgian international Kakha Kaladze has begged Milan President – and Italian Prime Minister – Silvio Berlusconi to intervene in the Russian conflict.

“It is a dramatic situation,” said the Rossoneri defender. “There are many dead, including civilians. So as a child of my country I ask for help.

“Anyone who can: European Union, NATO, America, help us to achieve democracy and liberty by sitting round a table and finding peace again.

“I will ask Berlusconi to take action, as he holds a great deal of sway with Vladimir Putin.”

This week the conflict in the breakaway region of South Ossetia deteriorated into war and Russia drove their tanks into the capital Tskhinvali, declaring Georgia had been “committing genocide.”

Georgia have now declared a ceasefire and requested talks with Russia, but the air raids are continuing.
