Anorthosis manager Temuri Ketsbaia has lead his team to famous victories over Greek giants Olympiakos and Panathinaikos, as well as a 0-0 draw on their Champions League debut away against Werder Bremen. Following his side's historic 3-1 victory in Nicosia on Wednesday evening, the Georgian now says the Cypriot champions have proven themselves at the elite level.
The former Newcastle United, AEK Athens and Anorthosis player was quoted by Sport 24 as having praised the performance of his team, whom he pointed out had endured a tough match at the GSP stadium against what he considers to be a 'quality team'.
"Congratulations to my players, they showed that they can play at this level," Ketsbaia said.
"We stood up well and deservedly took three points off a quality team.
"The ball favoured us because we quickly produced two goals.
"We found this difficult and we lasted but during the second half we weren't in any danger and we scored a third goal."
The 40-year-old was delighted with his team's defensive display on another famous night for Cypriot football but stressed that his side's work was by no means over.
"Our defense worked very well and got through hard work," Ketsbaia said.
"We have achieved a huge victory and we couldn't have imagined anything better.
"We now have four points and noting has finished yet.
"We will continue to work.
"Congratulations to the players and the fans."
